IKIGAI by Hector Garcia, Albert Liebermann

Books can be your mentors and this is one of them. This book got me struck from the very first page that says:

Only staying active will make you want to live a hundred years

Japanese proverb

I truly believe in this statement. I have been active all my life and sitting idle kind of depresses me (a weird fact about me that now many of you know :P)

Anyways, let’s get to the Ikigai review right away. Though I finished it almost a month ago but got the time now to post a review. It’s #ikigai story time!

In one sentence, I LOVED this book. It doesn’t have only one aspect but shares experiences from all aspects of life such as food, exercise, activity, relationships and everything else that helps in longevity and eternal peace. The overall feel of this book is just so positive. Now I want to visit Japan and Osaka actually (next destination maybe?)

So in this book, the writers interviewed the residents of a Japanese village with the world’s longest-living people mostly above 100 years of age to know the reason/secret behind their longevity. According to the Japanese, everyone has an ikigai—a reason for living. Ikigai is the place where passion, mission, vocation, and profession intersect—means that each day has a meaning. There’s a reason behind getting up in the morning. One great thing about these Japanese people is that they never retire. They pick their hobby to do it for the rest of their lives such as having their own gardens, painting, basically doing anything that they love and are associated with. How great is that?

More interestingly, there are various types of exercises related to yoga and other meditating techniques at the end of the book that can really help one in relaxing. What not to love? Also, this is NOT like other self-help books, trust me I totally adore this book and it’s that kind which is going to stay on my bookshelf for the rest of my life Scoring it 4.5/5
Do let me know if you’ve read it or planning on getting it soon. I’m sure you won’t regret cheers and happy reading!
